プラバコール（プラバスタチンソディウム）はコレステロール生合成を減らすHMG-CoA
還元阻害薬と呼ばれる脂質低減化合物のひとつです。 血流中のコレステロールとトリグリセリドはリポタンパク複合物として循環します。 この複合物は次のように定義されます。 高比重リポタンパク質（HDL）、中比重リポタンパク質（IDL）、低比重リポタンパク質（LDL）、超低比重リポタンパク質（VLDL）。
プラバコールはコレステロール値や肝臓内のIDL、LDL、VLDLの値を下げるのに大変効果的です。 多数の研究によりプラバコールは既往の冠状動脈性心臓病に対して顕著な効果があることがわかっています。 プラバコールはは脂肪やコレステロール過剰の際の食事制限、特に食事が劇的に変化するときに加えて使用するべき医薬品です。 プラバコールの薬効が最も現れるのは服用後1〜1時間半後です。 プラバコールは尿や便によって72時間以内に体内からほとんど完全に排出されます。
冠状動脈性心臓病に罹患していない場合は以下のような効果を発揮します。
・心筋梗塞のリスクを減らします
・心筋血管再開通術を受けるリスクを減らします
・心臓血管に問題の無い患者の死亡率を上げることなく、心臓血管による死亡率を減らします。
心血管系疾患の二次予防
・アテローム性動脈硬化症
臨床的に明らかに心筋梗塞の前の段階を含む冠動脈疾患とされたコレステロール異常の患者の
・冠状動脈硬化症の進行を遅らせます
・急性冠状動脈疾患のリスクを減らします
心筋梗塞
陳旧性心筋梗塞患者やコレステロール値が正常な（総人口の75%以下）患者についてはプラバコールは
・心筋梗塞の再発リスクを減らします
・心筋血管再開通術を受けるリスクを減らします
・脳卒中や一過性脳虚血発作のリスクを減らします
本医薬品は肝臓で作用するので、服用開始12週間後に肝臓機能の検査を受けることを強くおすすめします。 服用開始から4週間経過したら治療を中止するべきか、あるいは服用量を増やすべきか決定するためにコレステロール値がどのように変化しているかを計測してください。

服用法： 毎日プラバコール20mgを1タブレット経口服用してください。 食事と一緒でも別でもかまいません。 本医薬品は夜間休息中に最も作用するので就寝前に服用することをおすすめします。 たいてい一週間以内にLDL-Cやトリグリセリドは本医薬品に対してすばやく反応するようになります。 服用期間は最大4週間です。

Pravachol(Pravastatin Sodium) is part of a new class of lipid lowering
compounds, the HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors, for reducing cholesterol
biosynthesis. Cholesterol and triglycerides in the bloodstream circulate as
part of lipoprotein complexes. The complexes are defined as the following:
High Density Lipoproteins(HDL), Intermediate Density Lipoproteins(IDL), Low
Density Lipoproteins(LDL), Very Low Density Lipoprotein(VLDL).
Pravachol is very effective at changing cholesterol levels, IDL, LDL, and
VLDL levels in the liver where it all begins. In extensive studies Pravachol
has helped significantly in cases where coronary disease is already present.
This medication should be used in addition to a restricted diet in saturated
fat and cholesterol, especially when the diet has made radical changes.
Pravachol reaches its peak of effectiveness one to one and a half hours
after taking the product. Pravachol is excreted almost entirely from the
body through urine and feces within 72 hours.
Pravachol is recommended in cases where no coronary disease is present so
as to accomplish the following:
- Reduce the risk of myocardial infarction
- Reduce the risk of undergoing myocardial revascularization procedures
- Reduce the risk of cardiovascular mortality with no increase in death from
non-cardiovascular causes
Secondary Prevention of Cardiovascular Events
Atherosclerosis
In hypercholesterolemic patients with clinically evident coronary artery
disease, including prior MI, Pravachol is indicated to:
- Slow the progression of coronary atherosclerosis
- Reduce the risk of acute coronary events
Myocardial Infarction
In patients with previous myocardial infarction, and normal (below the
75th percentile of the general population) cholesterol levels, Pravachol is
indicated to:
- Reduce the risk of recurrent myocardial infarction
- Reduce the risk of undergoing myocardial revascularization procedures
- Reduce the risk of stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA)
Since the activity of this medication takes place in the liver, it is
highly recommended that liver function be checked in 12 weeks after usage.
Cholesterol levels should be checked after four weeks to note what changes
have occurred to determine if treatment should be halted or the amount of
medication should be increased.

Directions: Take one Pravachol 20mg tablet orally with or without
food every day. This medication should be taken before bedtime since it
seems to work the best overnight while resting. LDL-C and Triglycerides
respond quite rapidly to this medication usually in one week. The maximum
time should be four weeks.
Contents: 30 (20mg) Pravachol Tablets in a factory sealed container
